Strategic Planning

  • How will the organization achieve its vision? This is the strategic plan.
  • A planning process is selected based on marketplace and organizational issues.
  • “Inside-out” process uses internal, collective knowledge about the markets. The Industry Analysis (below) is not performed.
  • “Outside-in” process uses external sources of data. Learning and discovery are stretched to expand knowledge beyond normal and typical realms. Industry Analysis is conducted.
  • Shown here is CMA’s model for analyzing each potential market.

CMA Approach

  • Assist executive team in selecting the markets to be studied.
  • Assist in selecting teams who will analyze each selected market.
  • Train each team to conduct the strategic planning analysis. A set of CMA developed questions aligned with the planning model guides the team.
  • Provide guidance to each team as it collects and analyzes data and prepares its presentation to executives.
  • Assist the leadership team in integrating team results into a unified strategic plan with prioritized goals.
