description

Physicians’ well-being directly affects the quality of medical treatment and patient safety. Consequently, proactively establishing the optimal state of physical, mental, and social well-being for physicians is a necessity. Addressing physician burnout requires intervention at both systemic and personal levels. This workshop applies the three-part model of physician well-being created by Bohman et al. (2017) to encourage participants to create personal action plans that support meaningfulness, self-worth, self-efficacy, and satisfaction at work. The model postulates that three factors – practice efficiency, culture of wellness, and personal resilience – reciprocally influence each other in the development and maintenance of physician well-being, and are intervention points through which physicians and organizations can act to maximize physician wellness. In this workshop, presenters will provide a brief review of the model, followed by the development of an intervention strategy for individual and organizational efforts to support physician well-being. Specific facilitation strategies will be discussed to support participants in their efforts to bring training content back to the organizations. In summary, the workshop seeks to promote physician health and wellness through intentional, meaningful, and sustainable change among individuals and organizations.
